Check out our newest writer, Jacob Timothy Lange! When you’re done reading, tell us: What would you say to your former self if you had the opportunity?

How are you? I hope you’re doing well and taking it easy. By that I don’t mean being lazy and sleeping till noon like you sometimes do; I mean taking time out to relax. Chill. To be honest, you’re too hot-headed. You need to listen to yourself, listen to the people around you, and listen to God. I’m not saying have blind faith in everyone – face it, not everyone has your best interests at heart. You need to trust some people: your parents, your friends, God, and also yourself; but, if you want to stay in one piece, you need peace. Don’t talk back, but do stand up for yourself. Sounds hard? It is. Welcome to the story of the human race: We try to stay balanced, but we often fall off the tightrope. You have no chance of being perfect. But that doesn’t mean you should just give up and stop trying to walk the tightrope – it means the exact opposite: Chill. Collect yourself, concentrate, and try to stay in one piece. Run the race set out for you. It’s your life, and you can do what you want with it and in it. So if you want to give up, you can. Many people do.
But you also have the choice of striving to do and be the best you possibly can. You affect people, but you affect yourself most of all. It’s your life, and you’ve only got one shot at it. If you slip and fall off the tightrope, Jesus can help you up again. But your life is only so long, so why waste more than you need to? Keep this in mind: You only live once. So strive for peace. Follow your heart but follow Jesus above all, because you chose to. It’s a balance. It’ll tip once in a while, but don’t give up. Live your life to the max: Choose peace.
Keeping you in my prayers,
