I thought this was a really cool community outreach project. I attended a Philanthropy Conference at NYU Wagner earlier this year as a grad student and stayed in contact with them. I love what they are doing and the information that they share with their student community. Please check this out, support if you can, and let them know that they are doing a great job! This is straight from the update email they sent me:
Save the Date: WP presents SOUP for Dinner, a Micro-granting Event
Wishing you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving! Before everyone gets ready for some family and feasting, remember to mark your calendars for our next event: SOUP!
NYU Wagner Philanthropy Presents: SOUP for Dinner – a micro-granting event
Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Rudin 2nd Floor, Puck Building
Join us for SOUP for Dinner – a night in which we come together as a community to share a meal for a donation of $10. Hear from 4 local nonprofit organizations about their missions and the great work they are doing, and at the culmination of the evening, learn about how even a small donation can make a significant impact when pooled with other donations—as we collectively decide which nonprofit project we want the proceeds to support.
Our co-sponsors include: Wagner Management and Leadership Organization, Stonewall Policy Alliance, SNEAC, and Wagner Student Alliance for Africa.
A simple micro-granting event, SOUP seeks to
- engage students in the positive experience of individual philanthropy;
- support a small local nonprofit organization;
- demonstrate the impact of collective action.
This event will also be an opportunity for a few nonprofits to present to an audience of students who care about various themes and issue areas and to ultimately win a grant. 100% of each $10 donation will go to the nonprofit grant recipient.
Hope you can attend! If you do, let us know. We’d love to share your experiences 🙂
