The Story of Esther
In the twelfth month, the month of Adar, the Jews assembled in their cities, throughout all of the provinces of King Ahasuerus to destroy those who had sought to harm them. The princes of the provinces, the satraps, the governors and those who were doing the king’s business assisted the Jews because the dread of Mordecai had fallen on them.
Mordecai was great in the king’s house and he became great, his fame spreading through all the provinces.
The Jews struck their enemies and destroyed what was in their path and they did what they wanted to those who hated them. They killed five hundred people.
The ten sons of Haman were captured and brought back to the palace where Queen Esther requested to the king that they be hung on the gallows and the king granted that this be done.
On the thirteenth day of Adar, the Jews had killed a total of 75,000 people of those who hated them but they chose not to plunder their goods.
On the fourteenth day, they rested and rejoiced with a feast.
